HAWTHORNE, CA — A 37-year-old woman, Amber Laflora, was tragically shot and killed early Friday morning, July 18, 2025, outside the VIP Sports Bar in Hawthorne, California. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) confirmed Laflora’s identity as the victim of the shooting, which occurred in the parking lot of the bar where Laflora had reportedly been celebrating with friends and preparing to host her upcoming birthday party.

The Shooting Incident

The fatal shooting took place around 1:50 a.m. in the 11000 block of South Inglewood Avenue. According to authorities, the shooting stemmed from a dispute between Laflora and another woman, which reportedly began inside the sports bar and escalated into the parking lot.

Laflora, who was sitting in a car at the time of the confrontation, was allegedly forcibly pulled from the vehicle and shot multiple times in the abdomen. While local news reports suggested this scenario, LASD has not officially confirmed these details. What is confirmed, however, is that Laflora was found with gunshot wounds in the parking lot, and despite paramedics’ efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Laflora’s Life and Family

Amber Laflora’s tragic death has left her family and community in deep mourning. While official confirmation about her family members has not been provided, comments on her social media suggest that Laflora was a mother of six, and she had been actively planning a birthday celebration for herself in August. Her posts on social media show her as a lively and engaged person, enjoying life with loved ones.

As a mother and a member of the Hawthorne community, Laflora’s sudden loss has resonated deeply, particularly with those who knew her as a vibrant, caring person. Family members and friends have expressed their sorrow, mourning the tragic and untimely death of a mother, friend, and community member.

Ongoing Investigation and Suspect Description

As of Saturday morning, no arrests have been made, and the suspect in the shooting has not been publicly identified. However, LASD investigators have stated that they are looking for an adult female suspect who is believed to have fled the scene in a silver luxury vehicle.

Lt. Steve De Jong from the LASD has emphasized the importance of public assistance in the investigation. “We know that there were at least 40-50 people in the parking lot during the incident, and surveillance footage, as well as eyewitness accounts, may be crucial in identifying the suspect,” he said.

Footage from local news service TNLA captured significant police activity at the scene, including a perimeter set up around the bar and shopping center where the shooting occurred. Many patrons and onlookers were seen leaving the area, while some stayed behind, likely to provide statements to law enforcement.

Community Response and Appeal for Information

The Hawthorne community, still in shock from the violence that took a mother’s life, has rallied around Laflora’s family, offering support during this painful time. Community members have expressed frustration and concern over the violence in the area, urging law enforcement to bring the responsible individual to justice.

As the investigation progresses, LASD is urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the LASD Homicide Bureau directly at 323-890-5500, or to submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477) or via their website at lacrimestoppers.org.
