The fatal collision happened around 9:45 p.m. near the intersection of Polk Street and DeGarmo Avenue. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, witnesses reported that a vehicle heading east on Polk Street struck Posada and then fled the scene without stopping to assist or call for help.

Emergency personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded promptly to the scene. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, Posada was pronounced dead at the location of the crash.
