A Growing Concern Over Water-Related Deaths

A Call for Increased Vigilance and Water Safety

The frequency of water-related accidents has sparked renewed calls for increased water safety awareness. As Michigan residents and visitors flock to the state’s lakes and waterways during the summer, authorities are urging the public to be vigilant. Safety tips include:

  • Always wearing life jackets, particularly while boating or participating in water activities.

  • Never swimming alone and always having someone watch over swimmers.

  • Keeping a close watch on children when they are near water, including in pools or on boats.

  • Being aware of weather conditions, strong currents, and potential boating hazards.

While Stelkic’s tragic death is not being treated as suspicious at this time, the investigation into the exact cause of his drowning continues. Local authorities and safety organizations emphasize the importance of taking precautions to prevent such tragedies in the future.
